MLK Friends is a non-profit volunteer parent group exists to support our school and strengthen our school community.  www.mlkfriends.com

We had a fun week-long celebration of Dr. M.L. King, Jr. in January, including:

  • On Monday 1/15 Twenty people from our school volunteered at the local nonprofit Cradles to Crayons. Our task was to sort shoes, and we sorted enough to help 290 children in need in Massachusetts!
  • On Tuesday 1/16, our upper school, PAUS, hosted a Community Discussion on Diversity. Many parents attended and discussed ways we can celebrate the diversity of interests, orientations, and background among us.

  • On Thursday 1/18, we had a wonderful community potluck, then Harvard's Kuumba singers- they were fabulous! After a short break, we had three local civil rights leaders talk about their favorite quote from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr and how that quote inspired their work.

  • On Friday 1/19, the all-school Dr. MLKing Jr concert delighted parents with inspiring "I have a dream" speeches by fourth graders, the launch of our school's 5th grade service project: a clothing drive for Cradles to Crayons, and amazing singing and percussion by students from all grades.

  • On Saturday 2/3, The family concert at the legendary Club Passim featured music groups including two parents from our school and our school's music teacher! We raised $200 for scholarships for children in need at our school.
  • Thursday 2/8, MLK Friends funded the annual lion dance for the student Chinese New Year celebration
  • Friday 2/9 was the school's Chinese New Year Celebration concert. Students from all grade levels sang, danced and even did kung fu to welcome in the Lunar New Year. MLK Friends provided a special snack of a mandarin orange for each child.
